Kumkum Mohod, 17, has become the first Indian woman to win an individual recurve archery medal at the Asian Games, and she made it gold. The women's final in Aichi-Nagoya on Saturday went to a single-arrow shoot-off, where South Korea's Oh Yejin shot an 8 and Mohod answered with a 10.

On the way, she beat China's Zhu Jingyi and South Korea's Kang Chaeyoung, the two finalists from the World Championship gold-medal match. The individual title also earns India an individual quota place for LA28.

It is her second gold of the Games. Mohod shot last for India in the women's team final, which they won, then took silver in the mixed team event before Saturday's individual title. She finished only 10th in qualification and made her India debut barely a year ago.

The result is a rare break in Korean control of the event. In 12 editions of Asian Games recurve archery, South Korea had missed the gold only three times before.
