Tokyo Game Show 2026 will not reach the end of its own slogan. Organisers CESA confirmed on Saturday that Monday 21 September โ the closing day of what was sold as "The Longest Five Days of Nonstop Play" โ is cancelled outright, with Typhoon No. 25 forecast to strengthen over eastern Japan and wind and rain expected to worsen through the afternoon. Organisers cited the weather and the risk of transport disruption, and said safety came first.
The 30th-anniversary edition at Makuhari Messe had stretched the show to five days for the first time: two trade days on 17 and 18 September, then three public days instead of the usual two. The third of those public days is the one that has gone.
Sunday 20 September still runs its scheduled 9:30 to 17:00, but not unconditionally. Organisers are warning of heavy rain and strong winds, telling visitors to check forecasts and transport before travelling, and reserving the right to close individual facilities or activities on the day if conditions turn. Sunday tickets are not refundable.
Monday's tickets will be refunded through whichever vendor sold them. CESA says it is also trying to put some of Monday's stage programme online as part of the official broadcast, subject to the venue being safe enough to operate โ a partial salvage of the anniversary finale rather than a replacement for it.
It is a familiar shape for anyone who runs a large indoor show in September in Japan: the halls themselves are rarely the problem, the railway is. An exhibition spanning Makuhari Messe's halls 1 to 11, the International Conference Hall and TKP Tokyo Bay Makuhari Hall depends on tens of thousands of people all arriving by rail on a public holiday, and the trains are the part a typhoon takes away first.
