Brisbane 2032 will change chief executives before construction is far along. Cindy Hook, who has run the Olympic and Paralympic organising committee since December 2022, is leaving when her four-year contract runs out early next year. The committee says the search for her successor starts now, with an appointment due in the coming months.
The timing matters. The committee is moving from early planning into delivery, with venue construction under way. Queensland's Olympics minister, Tim Mander, said the next phase would focus on procurement, operations, project delivery and event readiness. That is a different job from building the organisation in the first place.
The exit also cuts across the board's original plan. When Hook was hired, committee president Andrew Liveris said the board saw it as a ten-year appointment that would run through to the Games. In her own statement Hook said the groundwork was done: "This is the right time to hand over to a new CEO for the next phase."
Liveris called her an exceptional leader who had turned a fledgling start-up into an organisation ready for Games execution. Federal sports minister Annika Wells also paid tribute.
